Sally Palmer

Indian Block Printing

Sallyanne Palmer has recently joined the Guild bringing her artisan craft of Indian Block Printing to add a new dimension to our curated collection of traditional and contemporary crafts.  Sally was first inspired to her craft by a chance discovery at a Cats Protection “Craft for Cats” session, and her journey into block printing then began with the Indian Block Print Co. and quickly evolved into a deep appreciation for one of India’s oldest textile traditions. Rooted in the centuries-old craft of wooden block printing from Rajasthan, Sally’s work honours the skill of artisans who hand-carve each intricate block.

Using traditional tools, every piece is individually printed by hand, resulting in truly unique, bespoke items. Fabric paints are carefully applied directly onto textiles, before being heat sealed to ensure durability and practicality for everyday use.

A pivotal moment came in October 2025, when Sally travelled to India to learn directly from master printers. This immersive experience not only deepened her understanding further of the craft but also inspired a renewed confidence to explore more traditional motifs, alongside bold experimentation with colour and texture.

Drawing inspiration from the large-scale blocks used in India to print flowing lengths of fabric, Sally has developed an extensive and diverse collection of printing blocks, ranging from classic patterns to more contemporary designs. As a certified tutor with the Indian Block Print Co., Sally is passionate about sharing her knowledge, offering workshops that invite others to experience the joy and mindfulness of block printing.

Committed to sustainability and quality, Sally carefully selects her materials, favouring organic and recycled fabrics wherever possible, including beautifully characterful vintage linens.

Her collection includes a wide range of handcrafted items such as throws, cushions, aprons, tea towels, baby and children’s pieces, bags, eco sponges, and washcloths – each one a celebration of craftsmanship, tradition, and thoughtful design.
